What
is this site all about?
Improve what is
and create what isn't - that's always been my mantra.
Writers new to
the craft have most to learn but if you've yet to be published or simply
accept that none of us are as clever as all of us then look around. Start
by understanding that there is so much conflicting advice for aspiring
writers out there and each and every expert will tell you that their version
of the truth is the correct one.
If anyone has
ever studied the life of Bruce Lee, they'll learn that he developed a
new fighting style known as Jeet Kune Do. Why? Because he believed that
no one existing style had all of the answers. It was drawing from many
different techniques that his legendary success emenated.
I have always
had a similar approach to writing. No one author or writing expert has
all of the answers. By literally reading almost a hundred books and listening
to over week's worth of podcasts (as well as close to a thousand internet
articles), I've combined the consistent and the best advice in one place.
This doesn't make what I offer always the 'correct' advice. Often all
I can provide are the conflicting viewpoints and you have to decide what
works for you.
Over the next
few weeks I'm going to upload a range of articles about character, point
of view, dialogue...in fact all the things you'll really want to know
if you aspire to be a better writer.
Articles on both
Characters and Dilaogue have recently been added to the the art of
writing page.
